The reason that no limit games enjoy fame is that these are the most psychological games around, owing to the fact that a player can literally lose everything in the first hand. Players come under the most pressure in these games, as tight play is liberally rewarded. Pot limit games come up second in terms of risk, though by no means is it safe in any sense of the word. This betting structure sets the limitation through the current size of the pot. It can, obviously get out of hand quite fast, so a good player would do well not to underestimate it.
Casinos tend to employ fixed limit games at their tables as it is a simple betting structure. This is simple in that all it does is set a ceiling for your bets. If the limit at the table happens to be ten dollars, then ten dollars worth of chips is all you can throw in. This makes sure that there are beginner tables around in order to get in the new blood. Later rounds generally have a doubled limit, allowing for greater tension and greater game for those who last that long.
